Here's the history of the legendary A-B-C Cars, all in one place! The SUV is to America as the Kei Car is to Japan — nearly half the car on the road in Japan are Kei Cars, a classification of small car that created tax benefits to encourage mobility after the second World War. Keijidōsha, or "light automobiles" were created by the Japanese government in the early 1950s, and really started to become popular a decade later. But when this economic measure to favor the economically disadvantaged crashed head-on with the unprecedented economic boom of the 1980s' "Japanese Bubble Economy," ,the result was three Kei sports cars known together as the A-B-C cars: A for the positively insane Autozam AZ-1, B for the Pininfarina-designed, 8500-rpm ITB-equipped Honda Beat, and C for the turbocharged Suzuki Cappuccino. In this video, veteran automotive journalist Jason Cammisa examines the history of the Kei-car regulations, including their start, their initial success with the Subaru 360, and discusses how there is no legal horsepower limit to Kei Cars — despite what you may have read elsewhere. In the process, Jason includes the stunning Honda S600 / S800 and tells the full history of the mid-engined Honda Beat, the last car signed off by Soichiro Honda; the microcar-Miata Suzuki Cappuccino; and the outrageous, Gullwing-door Autozam AZ-1, which was undeniably the most fun attendee at the party. Too bad it arrived after the cops had shut it down. The Kei Sports cars were short lived, but their impact on the world lives on, as three of the coolest cars ever made. So I am an idiot, I flew up to Iowa to buy a Kei Car and drive it back to Texas with zero planning, knowing nothing about anything, but it worked out. I've filmed this car at Automaxx Streetpower where it competed a Silvia S15, Civic Type R, Celica and an Opel Corsa at the drag race! Kei Cars are small Japanese cars that are regulated by its dimensions, engine displacement and maximum horsepower. This is one is from 1995 so it can only be 3.3 meters long and 1.4 meter wide and can only have an engine of 660cc that produces 64HP maximum. From factory it already came with a turbocharger, but this one has been tuned to twice the horsepower! I really appreciate that someone has imported this little rocket to the Netherlands! Not only is it practical, but it is a joy to drive due to its silky smooth gearbox and strong brakes. 38 horsepower may not sound like a lot, and it isn't. Nissan today unveiled the all-new Sakura electric minivehicle (Kei car) in Japan. Sales of the newest addition to Nissan’s EV lineup are scheduled to start in the market this summer. Named after the iconic Japanese cherry blossom, the Sakura’s affordable price provides more consumer choice in the EV market. The Sakura EV takes the minivehicle class to the next level. Its nimble handling and 4.8 meter turning radius allows drivers to execute sharp maneuvers with ease. Despite its size, the Sakura has a spacious interior and an ample driving range, making it perfect for daily driving needs such as commuting and shopping. It also features ProPILOT Park, an automated system designed to make parking easier and driving more pleasurable. Powerful, smooth driving performance The Sakura features the instant, smooth power and quietness that are the hallmarks of EVs. Equipped with advanced control technology and a motor producing 47 kW and 195 Nm of torque, the Sakura’s quick and steady acceleration makes merging on highways effortless. Meanwhile, the technology Nissan has cultivated through its development of the LEAF over more than a decade has enabled the Sakura to have the highest level of cabin quietness in the minivehicle class. Three drive modes — Eco, Standard and Sport — provide optimal performance for different situations. Using e-Pedal Step, the driver can decelerate smoothly and steadily by easing off the accelerator pedal — an action that also charges the battery through regenerative braking. The Sakura’s speed can be modulated using just the accelerator pedal. This makes driving more enjoyable on city streets, where repeated acceleration and deceleration are necessary, and on snow-covered roads that require smooth deceleration. In addition, the Sakura’s low center of gravity enhances stability and offers superior ride comfort over uneven road surfaces. State-of-the-art e-powertrain The Sakura is equipped with a state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery that has a track record of performance and reliability in the LEAF. Thanks to the special stacking method of its cells, the battery is compact, allowing the Sakura to have a spacious interior. Yet it offers a range of up to 180 km (based on WLTC Japan cycle), making it perfect for daily use. The battery can also be used as a mobile power source during emergencies and provide a day’s worth of electricity to a home. Advanced driving systems — a first for minivehicles In addition to the ProPILOT driver assistance system, the Sakura is equipped with the ProPILOT Park system — a minivehicle first. ProPILOT Park automatically controls steering, acceleration, braking, shifting and the parking brake while parking. Mitsubishi has introduced a new kei car in Japan called the eK X EV. It's a full electric kei car and the newest member of the eK X range. It will be available for purchase this summer. the new car as a Mitsubishi Outlander with a flat front, which is small and very “cartoon”. Indeed, the new car and the Nissan Sakura are sister cars to each other, so there is little difference in body size, structure, interior space, etc. In order to highlight the recognition of Mitsubishi, the front shape uses a more recognizable design in the current family. It can be seen that the new car adopts a split headlight group, the upper LED daytime running lights are connected with the chrome trim strip of the front grille, forming a through-type design, while the high and low beam headlight groups are placed on the front face. The two sides of the car are well distributed with the “X”-shaped chrome decoration of the front grille, showing the dynamic design of the new car. On the side of the body, the new car adopts a two-color design with different colors of the body and the roof. The exterior mirror shells are also of the same color as the roof.
