Learn how to make a super easy cloak or cape in my latest beginner sewing project - no pattern needed! This cape is the perfect cosplay or costume accessory - it's quick and easy to sew and adds drama to any character. Make it in a velvet fabric like I did for a masquerade or king/queen/prince/princess costume, or use a bright colored fabric for a superhero cape. It's also perfect for last minute Halloween costumes if you need a last minute costume idea for a costume party or comicon. MATERIALS NEEDED: -Fabric of your choice: I used 1 ¾ yards of a velvet fabric (you can use ANY fabric you want for this), but depending on your size and the width of your fabric you may need more or less – follow the steps of seeing how large to cut the cloak and then buy your fabric based on that size to make sure you get enough! -1.5 yards of 1-2 inch wide ribbon or trim for the tie -Sewing Machine: this is the machine I use: 🤍 * -Ball Point Needles: these are what I use: 🤍 * -Thread: this is my favorite because it’s strong & durable (I've found its worth buying better quality thread because cheaper thread breaks a lot): 🤍 * -Scissors: this is a great affordable set I’ve had for years: 🤍 * -(Optional) Walking Foot: if you’re using a stretch fabric that sews really wavy, a walking foot can help it sew smoother. Here’s the one I use with my Singer machine: 🤍 * -Pins -Tape Measure Links with a * denote affiliate links, meaning if you purchase through the link it won't affect your price but I'll get a small commission which is much appreciated to help me make more tutorials! Hello there, I had a very short length of fabric. I don't know what made me buy it. I had no better idea than to sew a simple cape. It may be a bit too simple, but as it was intended to be an indoor cape worn in home office, it doesn't need to be fancy. Occasionally I might wear it outdoors over my late Victorian / early Edwardian garments.

Here's what you'll need! EASY CIRCLE CAPE SUPPLIES Thick fabric (Fleece or felt are great) Scissors Fabric glue Needle Thread Button Sewing machine (optional) INSTRUCTIONS Measure the length of your arm. (neck to knuckles) Cut a string to that length, and tie on a piece of chalk. With a large piece of doubled up fabric, draw a half circle using the string and chalk. Cut out the half circle, and set aside the scraps to use for the collar. Fold the half circle into a quarter circle, and use the string again on the other end to cut a 5-inch hole for your head in the top. Unfold the half circle, and either glue the ends together with fabric glue, or sew with a sewing machine. Cut out the shape of collar you want for your cape. Sew or glue the edges together, leaving a small gap to inside out the fabric once dry. Stitch the collar into place on the top. Attach a button or decorative clasp to the collar. Cut and stitch a button hole to the other side of the collar. Enjoy your stylish new cape! Made by BFMP 🤍buzzfeed.com/videoteam

I had a few requests for various pieces of a DIY Batman costume from Rage On and Diegoneedsselfesteem, (and I also had to get it done because it's going to be my cousin's Halloween costume). It will be based on the Michael Keaton version. This tutorial is for the cape part of the DIY Batman costume and it's very easy to make. If you're on the smaller side, you might not even have to do any sewing, but if you're on the bigger side, you'll probably have to sew two pieces of material together like I did here in order to get the right width. The fake leather material can be found at JoAnn Fabrics (just make sure you bring a coupon for this stuff, since it's in on the pricier side), but you can always replace it with something cheaper if you prefer. Learn how to make a hooded cloak without a pattern, just using two of your own body measurements! This DIY hooded cloak is perfect for dressing up as a wizard, witch, superhero or other character for Halloween, a costume party or a cosplay event! Sew a red hooded cape to be Little Red Riding Hood, or so many other possibilities. You can make the circle cloak extra long or extra short (a capelet), and it will always be swingy and dramatic! Here’s what you need to make this hooded cloak: • Black fabric (I used satin lining fabric: 🤍 *). The exact amount depends on the length of your cape. I used 4 meters of 1 m wide fabric. Consider that you’ll need to cut out a circle with a radius around 2 meters. If your fabric, like mine, is narrower than that, you’ll have to cut out two semicircles and sew them together, like I show in the video. • Flexible tape measure: 🤍 * • Tailor’s chalk (traditional white or white chalk roller: 🤍 *) • Fabric scissors: 🤍 * • Pins: 🤍 * • Black polyester thread: 🤍 * • Size 80 universal machine sewing needle: 🤍 * • 1 snap (I used a 25 mm [1”] hand sewn snap: 🤍 *) • 1 decorative button (optional, to cover stitches for snap) • Optional: my circle skirt template (🤍 . This helps mainly to make sure that your fabric is folded correctly at a 90° angle and to help you gauge the 1 cm seam allowance at the selvages if you need to join two semicircles, like I show. Get the full written tutorial for making a hooded cloak on my blog! 🤍 Or try a different type of cloak with a stand-up collar, perfect for a vampire! 🤍 Skip to the part you want to see: 0:00 introduction and materials 1:10 calculating how to measure and cut the fabric 3:22 tracing out the first half of the cape (semicircle) 5:23 cutting both halves of the cape 5:39 sewing together the two halves 6:08 calculating the base of the hood 6:38 drafting and sewing the hood 7:36 attaching the hood to the cape 8:20 finishing off the edges 9:11 adding the snap Love sewing and crafting? These easy sewing instructions walk you through the steps of making your own cloak (or cape) from a 1 metre length of fabric. Perfect for making your own devil fancy dress at Halloween or a festive costume at Christmas (especially if you sew white fur to the hem). It's also budget-friendly! I include lots of diagrams and photos to help you, as well as providing the sewing pattern and showing you how to measure out the fabric shapes. This project is simple enough for sewing beginners; mainly because there aren't really any fitting issues since a cloak isn't form-fitting. If you want to make the cloak longer, shorter, wider etc. then just amend my pattern to suit your needs. I do a drawstring neckline, but you can of course change this to a toggle clasp or other fastening if you wish. I hope you have fun making it, and thanks very much for watching! P.S. For reference purposes, I am about 5ft 8 tall. The photos at the start of the video show me wearing the cloak so you can see how long it is on me. _ If you would like to browse craft products that I use in my videos or that I otherwise recommend, please take a look at my Amazon recommendations page: 🤍 Note that this page contains affiliate links so I receive a small commission on any sales made through this page, thank you :) If you would like to buy me a ‘coffee’ to support my channel, you can do so here: 🤍 Any support is hugely appreciated and helps me to cover websites fees, material costs and other expenses related to creating videos.
